Bookmarklets!

Bookmarklets are javascript-enabled bookmarks that are "smart" in some way. Instead of just being a dull link to a page, they can be dynamic, change based on your environment, ask questions, and generally try to be useful.

Bookmarklets are hyperlinks too, so to test-drive them without installing them, just click as if they were regular links.

Search

Search AllPodcasts
This bookmarklet will prompt you for search terms and will then take you to the results page.

Directory Lookup

Lookup Feed
This bookmarklet will prompt you for an RSS feed URL, and will then take you to the details of that feed in the AllPodcasts.com directory.

Lookup GUID
This bookmarklet will prompt you for an RSS item GUID for a podcast episode, and will then take you to the details of that GUID/episode in the AllPodcasts.com directory.

Lookup Selected Feed
Select/highlight a feed URL in your browser and click this bookmarklet. It will then take you to the details of that feed in the AllPodcasts.com directory.

Lookup Auto-Detect Feed
This bookmarklet will examine the current web page for embedded RSS details, and will then take you to the details of that feed in the AllPodcasts.com directory.

Indexing

Index RSS Link
This bookmarklet will prompt you for an RSS feed URL, and will then get AllPodcasts.com to add it to the index or start a re-index.

Index Selected RSS Link
Select/highlight a feed URL in your browser and click this bookmarklet. It will get AllPodcasts.com to add it to the index or start a re-index.

Index Auto-Detected RSS Link
This bookmarklet will examine the current web page for embedded RSS details, and will then get AllPodcasts.com to add it to the index or start a re-index.

View RSS

Includes enclosure information so you can get the show MP3s without needing an ipodder-like client.

View RSS In Web Page
This bookmarklet will prompt you for an RSS feed URL, and will then display the contents of that RSS in a web page for you.

View Selected RSS In Web Page
Select/highlight a feed URL in your browser and click this bookmarklet. It will then display the contents of that RSS in a web page for you.

View Auto-Detected RSS In Web Page

This bookmarklet will prompt you for an OPML feed URL, and will then display the contents of that OPML in a web page for you.

Select/highlight an OPML URL in your browser and click this bookmarklet. It will then display the contents of that OPML in a web page for you.

Validate RSS

Validate RSS URL
This bookmarklet will prompt you for an RSS feed URL, and will then validate the contents of that RSS file.

Validate Selected RSS URL
Select/highlight a feed URL in your browser and click this bookmarklet. It will validate the contents of that RSS file.

Validate Auto-Detected URL
This bookmarklet will examine the current web page for embedded RSS details, and will then validate the contents of that RSS file.

Installation

Installation is really simple. Right-click on the bookmarklet link and choose "Add to Favorites..." in Internet Explorer or "Bookmark This Link..." in Mozilla/Firefox. In the Add dialog, click OK.

Internet Explorer may give you a security alert that says "You are adding a favorite that may not be safe. Do you want to continue?" - we feel our bookmarklets are safe, but you should verify that for yourself.

Hey presto! You now have a toolbar button or favorite that runs the bookmarklet!

Security

There are security issues! Since they involve running scripts, various browser settings may interfere with their execution. Using bookmarklets when you don't trust the source of the bookmarklet is A Bad Thing, and may send you to phishing sites, install spyware/malware, or other nasty things. Let's be careful out there!
